Composing for films and games is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. It’s about creating a sound that not only supports the story but elevates it—pulling the audience deeper into the moment. Here’s a glimpse into how I approach it:
- Understand the Emotion: Whether it’s tension, joy, or heartbreak, I start by identifying the core emotion of the scene.
- Choose the Right Instruments: Strings and pianos are my go-to for emotional depth, but synths and ambient pads often add that cinematic edge.
- Build Layers Gradually: I like to start with a simple melody, then build it up with harmonies, textures, and percussive elements.
- Focus on Dynamics: Swells, pauses, and sudden drops in volume can create dramatic shifts that keep listeners engaged.
- Keep It Personal: The best tracks come from a place of honesty. If it doesn’t move me while I’m creating it, I know it won’t move the audience.
Every project is different, but the goal is always the same: to make you feel something. And when it works, it’s pure magic.
